One of Jonny' s plans was to build us a good spec track focused car, so we set out a budget to find a good base as to which we could give the "Performance" treatment.

After looking at various base cars (Elise S1 , Elise S2 , VX220 Turbo's & a few NA VX220's), here is what we chose :  Vauxhall VX220 in calypso red. One bonus is this example had relatively low miles & has had a few body modifications done including Coupe Conversion, its also had a M62 Supercharger put on in the past however, the SC install is very rough and there is a HUGE smell of fuel passing into the cab......so first things first!

After some investigating, turns out the fuel lines had been chopped and some cheap nasty braided lines joined on that were actually leaking! Note : Never scrimp on fuel lines!


We replaced every fuel line with Gen Vauxhall parts job done. 

Next purchase was a set of Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 alloys with Yokohama AD08 tyres, these not only look much nicer than the horrific Vauxhall alloys, but also improve handling!

Next up : time to Adjust the suspension & give the car a Full Geo Set up.


We had some new Gaz Suspension units in a box, so for now we have installed them on the VX.

Future plans are to get some high spec Nitron units, oh and we painted the spoiler end plates to match the body. :)

After a few weeks of getting to know the car on various runs, we will be shortly stripping the VX ready for some great mods.........watch this space!

First up.......we recently found a new powder coaters who is in walking distance of our unit, very handy I know!.


This was his trial piece for us, the rocker of the Z22SE, looks ace, happy days!


Also we painted the spark plug cover wrinkle red & popped both back on the engine until strip down time.

Engine Is Out & All Suspension parts are off and sent for powdercoating......

Engine Stripdown time, BUT before we do we could not resist trail fitting the new manifold, look at this stunning bit of craftsmanship!

Some porting work was carried out on the head before its goes to the machine shop.....

With great access now was the ideal time to give the bay a thorough clean, corrosion builds up where the subframe bolts so we clean this area and apply Duralac along with some new Spitfire Engineering shims upon rebuilding.

The Block & Head have now been stripped and sent to our machine shop, the block is being bored out to suit some 86.5mm Wiseco Pistons with lower compression for future plans :) 

The head is being cleaned, skimmed, + new larger valve seats being cut to take the Supertech Valves which have arrived From the USA!  (Inconel Oversized Exhaust + Oversized Nitride Intake)

DELIVERY!! Head & Bored out block are back from the machine shop! We have also had loads of goodies delivered.......PICS INCOMING

The rebuild begins!

We first set about getting the front suspension back together while waiting on some dowels to be made for the block. Instead of bushes we opted for Nitron Bearings for the wishbones :)

Now its time to get building the engine, a fair few pics to follow, safe to say Jonny had a fair few late nights getting this built up :D

 Balance shaft bearing drifted around 7.5mm & Blanks Fitted then After installing the head, timing chains are on + the new cams are timed in using SAAB Sprockets, Cant beat a lovely fresh engine!

Inlet, Fuel rail & injectors installed - We opted for 630cc injectors :) We painted the M62 charger black this is being installed for running in purposes only we have something big in the pipeline cough HARROP

TTV Flywheel, Clutch + Gearbox going back on :)

Rear end being built up & a delivery from our friends over at Spitfire Engineering with one of there toe link kits :D

Really coming along now! not long till first start 

Well safe to say we cant wait to get this thing started!

We have had a delivery from the Netherlands, Our ECU has arrived we opted for our original ECU Updated with Dutch Software meaning its fully programmable and loaded with a base map.  Once run in we can map accordingly :)

Nearly Time to put the rear clam back on, however we wanted do do something different - We aim to cut the rear clam to air cooling and also give the car a bit of a different look to your usual VX220.

We used some  nimbus heatshield inside the clam to protect against heat also!

500 miles later and the VX run in procedure is complete, Oil change time.....happy to report its faultless :)


Also a rather large box arrived from Corbeau with our new seats in!

We have been toying with the idea of a few colour options on the VX, because our logo is orange / white we have chosen matt / satin black :D its gonna look ace!

We have also taken delivery of a Harrop Supercharger, this is going to be fitted next along with a silenced Decat :)

Big Brake Kit- With all the extra power we needed to up the stopping force, 308mm floating discs + CL pads all round with big 4 pot calipers should do the trick! We have just book our first track day for the VX at croft. 

It will be a great shakedown run :)

The car performed faultlessly all day, gained some great feedback to work with :) 

Well Winter is here so that means more tinkering & Cleaning i guess :D
